Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Ms. Yolanda Canty on being named the Teacher of the Year for Fairview Elementary for the 2023-2024 school year!!

Canty TOTY

My name is Ms. Yolanda J. Canty. I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Canty, Sr. I have three brothers and three sisters. I attended and graduated from George Washington Carver Comprehensive High School and Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. I participated in many activities and sports during my high school and college years, which included basketball, softball, Cross-country, track, and marching in the school’s band as the mascots (Panther and Wolverine.)

I enjoy dancing, reading non-fiction books, writing poetry, playing basketball, and meeting new people.

My life-long goal began when I was five years old. I wanted to become a teacher. I have been teaching elementary-aged children for twenty-nine years, and I am still enjoying every moment of it. Teaching children brings me joy. I delight in shaping and molding the minds of our future leaders. My reward is seeing the children grow, learn, and become productive citizens in society.

I currently serve as an E.I.P. (Early Intervention Program) Teacher and have done so for the past six years. I also serve on the School’s Leadership Team.

There are various accomplishments I have achieved during my teaching career that are very special moments for me. They include but are not limited to the following: I received “Teacher of the Year” in 1998-1999 in Atlanta Public Schools. I obtained my master’s degree in Post-Secondary Education from Troy University on June 8, 2012. I received “Teacher of the Year” at Fairview Elementary School in 2014-2015 in Newton County. I am currently enrolled as a student at the Institute For Writers (Formerly known as the Institute of Children’s Literature), where I am learning how to write and publish books and articles for children, teenagers, and adults. In addition, I plan to further my education by expanding my horizons in school leadership soon.

Last, but not least, I would like to thank my colleagues for selecting me to represent Fairview Elementary School as our “Teacher of the Year” for the 2023-2024 school year. I am honored, delighted, and count it as a privilege. This recognition is very special to me.
