Name of Club: FVES Reading Eagles Book Club

Purpose: The purpose of the FVES Reading Eagles Book Club is to create interest among students regarding the importance of reading, to model appropriate methods of reading, and to spread a reading culture throughout our school.
Description of Planned Activities: Students interested in the 2024-2025 FVES Reading Eagles book club can complete THIS PERMISSION SLIP in the Fall of 2024. The first 25 students with a permission slip returned by 9/13/24, signed by a parent giving permission for the student to participate, will receive one copy of each of the the three books we will be reading during the school year. These books are theirs to keep. The Reading Club will meet monthly on Mondays after-school beginning on September 16, 2024 and ending in February, 2025. Any student in grades 3-5 may participate. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who participate in the Book Club and read the first three books by February, 2025 will have the opportunity to be chosen for the Reading Bowl competitive team. The competitive team will compete in the virtual "quiz-bowl" type competition against other Newton County elementary school teams in February of 2025. The top scorers from FVES will win a spot to attend TomeCon, a literary conference, in March 2025.
